Mechanical Seal Repair

Malavazi develops complete industrial sealing solutions, combining in-house manufacturing and specialized technical services focused on operational reliability, process safety, and equipment performance.

Within its mechanical seal portfolio, Malavazi offers both the development of new mechanical seals, defined according to the specific conditions of each application, and the reconditioning of mechanical seals in service, carried out in a controlled and technically driven manner.

Mechanical Seal Reconditioning

Malavazi’s mechanical seal reconditioning process follows a structured technical methodology, with dimensional control, traceability, and individual evaluation of each assembly. Reconditioning feasibility is determined based on actual operating conditions and the equipment application history. All stages are conducted with a focus on sealing system reliability.

In addition to functional recovery, the process may include reconditioning the mechanical seal for return to operation or, when technically feasible, adapting it to new process conditions. This evaluation considers parameters such as fluid characteristics, pressure, temperature, rotational speed, and seal arrangement, always based on the technical criteria defined in the design stage.

Reconditioning Process Steps

  • Technical seal analysis: evaluation of operating history, failure modes, and component wear levels.
  • Disassembly and cleaning: complete removal of contaminants, process residues, and deposits.
  • Dimensional and visual inspection: verification of clearances, sealing surfaces, flatness, and component integrity.
  • Replacement of compromised components: any component presenting excessive clearances or visible damage is replaced.
  • Lapping and grinding of sealing faces: reconditioning of contact surfaces to ensure primary sealing performance.
  • Technical assembly and final validations: assembly according to technical procedures, including leak-tightness verification.

Why Choose Mechanical Seal Reconditioning?

Mechanical seal reconditioning can be a technically viable alternative when performed within well-defined criteria, contributing to:

  • Cost reduction compared to the acquisition of new assemblies
  • Mitigation of recurring failures and unplanned shutdowns
  • Contribution to more sustainable industrial practices

Before and After

Mechanical seals affected by wear can be reconditioned and returned to operation, provided they meet the criteria defined during the design stage.
